Cinco de Mayo is here so get ready to party but don't mess up that body you have been working so hard for. Margaritas and other drink cocktails are known to be a dieters worst enemy.
Frozen margaritas are popular and tasty, but run in the 250 calorie range. Some are even worse with sugar exceeding over 350 calories.
Here are a few tips to keep you on point for your Summer body goals.
- The higher the proof would mean the greater the calories.
- Pina Coladas contain more calories than a Big Mac.
- A mixed drink with orange juice has 56 calories and Coca Cola has 105 calories per eight ounces.
Wine Spritzers
Any type of wine can be turned into a spritzer to create a healthier alcoholic drink. At approximately 25 calories per ounces an average glass of wine is about 150 calories. Not bad to begin with. A wine spritzer, however, typically contains only 3 ounces of wine (75 calories) All you have to do is add club soda to taste, giving you bubbles. White wines are usually low in calories, depending on alcohol content.
Flavored Vodka on the rocks with a twist
80 proof vodka has around 64 calories per ounce, or 96 calories per shot. Most flavored vodkas use natural and artificial flavors which add no calories. If straight vodka is too much for you to handle, add a splash of cranberry juice or a little club soda.
Sea breeze
A see breeze cocktail is made with vodka, cranberry juice, and grapefruit juice. When you order, tell the bartender that you want mostly grapefruit juice with a little cranberry. One ounce of grapefruit juice is only 11 calories, while one ounce of cranberry juice is almost 20. Including a shot of 80 proof vodka, gives you a tasty low calories cocktail that looks just like the regular version. Total is 113 calories.
Tequila and soda with lime
The classic margarita is low calorie and made with juice, tequila, triple sec, and lime juice leaving out the sugary rim and flavored mixers getting the calories to 150 calories. You can add orange for extra flavor.
Anything mixed with tea
Most spirits come in under 100 calories and they all pair well with iced tea. Make sure to avoid sweet tea because it can have nearly 5 tablespoons of sugar per serving. Unsweetened tea will have zero calories.
Rosé
If you like it simple, try Rosé. It is a total of 85 calories.
Faux-jito
Mint, 1 lime wedge, ounce of rum with lemon lime soda. It is under 150 calories.
